Fear of water isn't just about swimming.

Most adults with water anxiety fall into one of five categories — and understanding yours is the first step to changing it.

First-hand experience— a past traumatic event, near-drowning, or panic episode in water

Second-hand experience— witnessing someone else struggle or hearing fearful stories

Social pre-conditioning— growing up around family members who feared water

Can swim but still fearful— physically able but anxious or unsafe in deeper water

Never. Every aquaphobia session is completely private — just you and your coach. We do not place fearful swimmers in groups under any circumstances.

You have a stop signal at all times. Nothing progresses without your agreement. Your coach is specifically trained in graded exposure — you stay in your comfort zone while it slowly expands.

Research shows aquaphobia can be significantly reduced after 6–10 in-water sessions, though every person is different. We’ll give you an honest picture after your first session.

Absolutely. Many of our aquaphobia clients can already swim but feel anxious or unsafe in deeper water or the ocean. This is one of the most common presentations we work with.
