Learning to Swim as an Adult is Essential
Swimming isn’t just a skill—it’s a lifesaving ability, a confidence booster, and a gateway to new experiences. Yet, so many adults put it off, believing it’s too late to learn. The reality? It’s never too late, but it is too important to ignore.
Reasons Every Adult Should Learn to Swim
Safety First
Drowning is one of the leading causes of accidental death in Australia, and many incidents involve adults who never learned to swim. Adults make up 70-90% of the drownings every years Whether you’re at the beach, by a pool, or on a boat, having basic swimming skills could save your life—or someone else’s.
Overcoming Fear & Gaining Confidence
Many adults avoid water due to past experiences, fear, or embarrassment. But learning to swim empowers you, removes fear, and opens up a world of opportunities—from beach holidays to water sports.
Health & Fitness
Swimming is a full-body workout, perfect for adults of all ages and fitness levels. It’s low-impact, great for joint health, and improves cardiovascular fitness, strength, and endurance—without the strain of high-impact exercises.
More Quality Time with Family & Friends
If you have kids, knowing how to swim isn’t just about safety—it’s about joining in the fun. No more sitting on the sidelines while they splash in the pool. You’ll be able to swim with them, keep them safe, and make memories together.
Unlocking New Experiences
Ever wanted to try snorkeling, scuba diving, kayaking, or even just floating peacefully in the ocean? Without swimming skills, these experiences remain out of reach. Learning to swim gives you the freedom to explore and enjoy the water without fear.

I had a stroke correction lesson with Ruby in the Willoughby pool. Ruby is excellent and I would thoroughly recommend lessons with her. She articulates cues well to help you think about how changes should feel. I've left feeling confident about how I will begin progressing my stroke in many different ways. Yvonne TseTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My son had a lesson with Head Coach Jason to help him improve his stroke technique for competition. It was awesome and fantastic. Jason is very professional and attentive. His eye for detail was incredible, he identified issues with my son’s stroke that had been holding him back for years. His instruction was clear, and he provided consistent feedback that helped him to correct his technique. My son is so happy to learn from him and looks forward to having the next lesson. I highly recommend Coach Jason to any serious swimmer looking to refine their skills. Soraia SousaTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I did the ocean confidence session this morning with Jason at Malabar and it was awesome. He gave us the basics of ocean swimming, what to look out for and best of all how you remain calm and confident in the ocean. All round nice guy and I would recommend this session if you're a little apprehensive but super keen for an ocean swim. I loved it so much I'm signing up for the social swim next! Both my children had lessons with Ruby at Willoughby and she was fantastic. She was patient, encouraging and made the lessons fun from the start. My kids instantly felt confident in the water with her. As a mum I appreciate how calm reassuring and professional she was. Highly recommend! KamalaTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. This was my first session and Ruby was incredibly patient and pleasant to deal with. She gave me alot of useful feedback that I can use to improve. I'll definitely go back for more lessons! Matthew MarichTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Would highly reccomend private swimming lessons with Jason. I reached out with quite specific requirements that I needed to meet for cabin crew recruitment, specifically in relation to their “swim test”. Jason was able to tailor his teaching methods and practise tasks in order to best prepare me for the day! For example, he came up with ways for me to mimic the “tugging” or saving someone in the water, and found creative ways to best prepare me for the day. Generally speaking, he was very attentive and supportive, and always came up with personalised advice which he believed would help in learning how to swim! Overall, I ended up passing, and would highly recommend this company! Robert PostemaTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Very good & helpful session with Hyun Soo Hwang today working on stroke & breathing issues Chris KondouTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. What a great experience, without doubt Jason and his team at Swimly have been awesome. Knowledgeable & expertly balancing the tightrope to get you out of your comfort zone whilst at the same time creating a safe environment.
